Welcome to my travel blog about Darjeeling, a beautiful hill station located in the Indian state of West Bengal. Darjeeling is known for its stunning views of the Himalayas, lush tea gardens, and charming colonial architecture. 

Getting to Darjeeling: The nearest airport is BAGDOGRA, which is about 96 km away from Darjeeling. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a shared cab to reach Darjeeling. The journey takes about 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train to New JALPAIGURI (NJP) railway station and then take a shared cab or hire a taxi to Darjeeling. The train journey takes about 8-9 hours from Kolkata. 

Things to do in Darjeeling: 


  • Visit Tiger Hill for a stunning sunrise view of the Himalayas. On a clear day, you can see Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world. 
  • Take a ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The toy train ride takes you through picturesque tea gardens and beautiful landscapes. 
  • Explore the tea gardens of Darjeeling and learn about the process of tea production. You can also sample different types of tea and buy some to take home.
  • Visit the GHOOM Monastery, one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Darjeeling. You can see the beautiful Buddhist prayer flags and witness the monks performing their daily rituals. 
  • Walk around the Mall Road and explore the colonial architecture of Darjeeling. You can also shop for souvenirs and local handicrafts in the markets. 

  • Where to stay in Darjeeling: There are several accommodation options in Darjeeling, ranging from budget to luxury hotels. Some popular options include Hotel Seven Seventeen, Mayfair Darjeeling, and Windamere Hotel. 

  • Best time to visit Darjeeling: The best time to visit Darjeeling is from March to May and from September to November. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the skies are clear, offering stunning views of the Himalayas.
